TUG Tip --IT

Keep to Yourself

Computer and data security is a major topic nowadays and there is plenty that a user can do to help protect their corporate as well as their personal data. Most workstations, especially those on a network have a password setup that forces a user to login. Additionally, they have a screensaver setup that will lock the workstation with that password after a few minutes. So here is a little unknown tip that can blind prying eyes when you leave your workstation without having to wait for the screensaver to kick in. Lock your workstation on demand by pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE and then choose “Lock” from the menu that pops up. For even a quicker way, I use the hot key combo  + L (Windows key and L). This will lock your screen instantly. This is especially important when your screen may have sensitive corporate data displayed, such as payroll or employee records. I do this as habit every time I get up to leave my desk.
