TUG Tip of the Week:

Excel Flash Fill:

Check out the YouTube channel for video instructions to this useful tip!

If you don’t want to write a formula in Excel to extract desired data, you can use Flash Fill.

In this example, Zip Codes were entered in Excel in various ways. To strip the zip code out of the entered data you can copy the desired data and paste into a new column. Click Flash Fill on the Data tab and the data automatically fills. This could also be used to separate first and last names. This tip was discussed at a recent Excel Tips and Tricks webinar by an attendee. A great tip that we hope you’ll find useful.
