Crystal Reports – Group Using Formulas (not Fields)
If you group your reports using Formulas, not Fields, then you can quickly and easily change your report structure later without having to re-do any formatting.
I name my grouping formulas with a “*G-“ at the beginning to help me keep track. In the example below, I have an “Invoices by Job” report that is subtotaled by Vendor that I quickly switched to an “Invoices by Vendor” report that is subtotaled by Job by simply editing the *G – 1 and *G – 2 formulas.
